APC will win Benue if… -Odugbo

·         Says he is set to return to National Assembly

A Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and an aspirant for the position of Member, Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives in the forthcoming general elections, Hon. Sunday Odugbo has reiterated that the mega party APC would defeat the ruling party in Benue State, come 2015.

Hon. Odugbo also gave conditions for the success of the party in the state, saying APC would take over the mantle of leadership in Benue State if the principal actors could unite together and resolve the animosity that is currently prevalent among the leaders of the party.

The House of Representatives Aspirant made the above remarks while addressing some Journalists in his country home, Otukpa, shortly after presiding over a party stakeholders’ meeting where issues bordering on the crisis rocking the party; strategies to win elections and participation in the party’s membership registration were discussed, among other issues.

John Igoche conferred with Chieftaincy title

By Sunday ITODO

In recent times, it has been the norm of the people of various ethnic backgrounds to honour illustrious and outstanding members of the society, who have distinguished themselves among the comity of people or in their chosen careers.

Such honours could come in form of presentation of award of excellence; casting votes for the individual during elections; conferment of chieftaincy title; among others. These are usually done without bias and with utmost sincerity of heart, as a mark of reward and acknowledgement of the contributions of such a recipient to the society.

The late literary icon, Chinua Achebe once said that “it is better to celebrate a man when he is still alive and can appreciate it than bringing a cow to his funeral”.

This must have informed the decision of Ai-Oji Family Development Association, Abuja branch, when they turned out in their numbers to celebrate one of their own, Chief John Adikwu Igoche with the title of ‘Ojema 1 of Ai-Oji’.

Why APC is on fire in Benue

Dictatorship, non-accountability the cause of the crisis in Benue APC – Young Alhaji

By Owoicho OCHE
Young Alhaji

Former Deputy Governorship candidate of the defunct ACN in Benue State in the 2011 election, Alhaji Usman Abubakar, popularly known as  ‘Young Alhaji’ has said that dictatorship, imposition of executives, and above all non-accountability of party funds on the part of former party executives are the causes of the crisis in the new merger party, APC in the state. Read the full interview with DayBreak’s reporter:

On whether there is a Crisis in Benue APC:
It will be foolhardy and pretentious of anybody to state that there is no crisis in APC in Benue State. You must have heard a fallacious news item carried in some local radio stations recently by a purported leadership of the new APC in the state that the leaders of the party in the state are only George Akume, Nelson Alapa, Benson Abounu, and so on leaving out my name. The announcement went on to say that anybody doing business with any other person in the name of APC does so at his own risk; what a fallacy! You and I know the role I have played in shaping opposition in the state, especially in ACN in the last dispensation, so to say that I am not a leader of the merger party in the state because I demand justice  is nothing but a fallacy and a pointer to the crisis we are talking about.

'It is our turn to steal’: corruption, abuse of office, and the culture of impunity that sustains it

Stella and President Jonathan in Isreal last week
BY Jaye GASKIA

In the past few days, as is often the case whenever a new can of worms involving one of the corrupt elites superintending over the grand looting of the treasury is opened, we begin to be fed with very nauseating, putrid, and unacceptable verbiage in defence of the thief and or abuser of our trust whose hands or fingers have just been caught deeped firmly into our collective teal!

And what do they say? What do you hear from the paid official and, patronage dependent clientele of unofficial spokespersons; as well as the hurriedly put together rented crowds of supporters rallying in defence of their ‘son’ or ‘daughter’ who is being persecuted by so-called political enemies or some other envious ethnic group!

Haba? What arrant nonsense? What a culturally convenient lie to tell to cover up criminality of the highest order, from the different summits of power?

We do ourselves loads of harm when we allow
ourselves to be told, and to believe such patent lies! Some even go so far as to ask, why is the particular thief being hounded and chased about? Why are other thieves not being hounded? Was this thief the first to steal? Were things not already bad before the time of this particular light fingered pirate? And on and on they go with such stomach turn and nauseating , but lame excuses to save someone who is after all just a common thief in high office, a common kidnapper, holding our collective development prospects captive by their looting spree!

Understanding the misunderstanding in God & Religion: Perspectives in Judaism, Christianity & Islam.

By Ahmed Ibrahim Khalil

Khalil
The interest of this topic is to examine God’s message against the contumacy of how people make a mockery of themselves in a shameless display of ignorance of what they claim to be, or represent; in the entire three religious divide. My consistent references to the Qur’an at the introductory part of the paper are because it is the latest edition of the divine books. Expectedly, there are mentions of the other divine books and religious rites of the earlier people. The second reason being that it accepts the others.

By Sunday ITODO, Adaeze Linda EZE and Jossy OTSONU

The rising crime waves in Ugbokolo and environs are becoming alarming and unbearable; the inhabitants can no longer have their peace. Once it is 7 pm everyone seems to be living under the apprehension of whose compound would become the next point of call to the robbers.

The ancient town is gradually becoming a den of robbers as a result of the incessant robbery attacks and other social vices being perpetrated by those children of perdition. Their activities are in assortment – from highway robbery to rape; from snatching of cars, phones and other items to physical assaults.

In carrying out those activities, the ‘unknown gunmen’, as the Police would always refer to them, are

MARK: Fears for Idoma
The people of Idoma were recently shocked when the Senate President, David Mark affirmed that they should burry the hope of ruling Benue State. One of the main purposes why He came is to be with us. This abiding character motivates me to be more committed to Him, to serve Him continually.

OPINION: How to Overcome Corruption in Nigeria

By Luke Akor

Corruption comes in different ways at different levels. Corruption includes stealing of public funds meant for development, misappropriation of funds, refusal to release funds for projects that would be of importance to the public, illegal appropriation of funds to an institution in a legal way for personal aggrandizement and for people’s cheap favour and so many other ways that hamper the growth of economy.

Corruption is a monster to economy. In Nigeria, corruption has almost become a norm, culture that people have accepted to be the way things are done. In Nigeria today,

ADVERTORIAL: Politics Should Not Be a Subject of Insult but a Wheel of Ideals for Meaningful Development

THE CONCERNED YOUTH EMPOWERMENT ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA, NATIONAL SECRETARIAT, ABUJA.

Dear Concerned Youths,

As the political temperature rises in the country, and decent and constructive political discourse gives way to indecent personal attacks and insults, because of the looming 2015 Presidential and Gubernatorial elections, it is proper that every opportunity is seized to remind the concerned youth of Nigeria of the crucial role they are to play in all the political parties as far as organization and implementation of political strategies are concerned.

It is also important that the youths are reminded that they should strive to ensure for the sake of Nigeria and her people that the elections are free, fair, transparent and peaceful. Decent language and good behaviour is what is expected of all citizens especially the youths.

Every concerned Nigerian youth must unite to resist election rigging and imposition of candidates on us. Let us at all times, inform and educate the populace on issues that will promote national unity, entrench our political and democratic strength.

The right of every citizen to vote as entrenched in the constitution must be respected. It is not a privilege but a RIGHT. And our demand for judicious delivery of democratic dividends and values should not be visited with attacks, insults and acrimony.

The seat of power is not a preserve for any particular group of people, state or region and it is constitutionally made for all Nigerians without questionable character.

Government officials should at all times avoid comments or posts on social / electronic media that demonstrates lack of modicum of integrity, negligence and disrespect to Nigerian youths.

Signed:
Noble C.C. Adaelu,

National President, THE CONCERNED YOUTH EMPOWERMENT ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA.

DAYBREAK PLATFORM: Neither PDP nor APC can take Nigerians to the promised land -Jaye Gaskia

Jaye Gaskiya
By Sunday ITODO and Owoicho OCHE

Not many people may be familiar with the name Jaye Gaskia outside the shores of civil society organisations in the country. But as far as campaigns for the emancipation of the masses are concerned, he is a force to be reckoned with. He has played very vital roles in the organisation and re-organisation of the bodies resulting in the formation of the coalition, United Action for Democracy (UAD) that was actively involved in the botched January 2012 protest against the removal of oil subsidy. He is rhetorical about that protest which he dubbed as ‘‘the ‘Peoples Uprising’ that would have ushered in a new order in the country”. And just as progressive elements are jubilating in the country over the formation and subsequent registration of the opposition merger party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jaye Gaskiya calls for caution on the part of social activists eager to join the bandwagon, saying neither the merger party nor the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has the capacity to usher in the new order. In this exclusive interview with Sunday ITODO and Owoicho OCHE of our editorial desk, he reminisces his involvement in civil society activities against military dictatorships over the years resulting in the birth of the present republic, the rise of monumental corruption in the new dispensation and the need for an alternative platform to be formed by ‘the people themselves’ to free them from the shackles of bad governance.
